MIstreamnet User Instructions
Welcome to MIstreamnet, Michigan's streaming video web service for educators. MIstreamnet is brought to you by the REMC Association of Michigan, in partnership with Merit Network Inc. and Apple Computer.
To view streamed video, you'll need a broadband connection to the Internet - preferably your school's network, or a DSL or cable modem connection. If you have questions about your school's network connection size, please contact your building or district network administrator. MIstreamnet streams cannot be viewed on a dial-up connection.
MIstreamnet has been developed to operate on the Internet Explorer browser for Windows users, and on Safari for Mac OS users. Those using Netscape, Firefox or IE for Mac browsers should look for and follow the special instructions on the "Live Video Stream" page. You may wish to print the instructions below - please follow them carefully to insure that you can view MIstreamnet programs easily and reliably.
Prior to the Webcast
At least ONE week before the Webcast, test the computer you will use to view the event to be sure you have good video and audio.

Prior to the Webcast
At least ONE week before the Webcast, test the computer you will use to view the event to be sure you have good video and audio.
- The site address to begin testing is http://www.mistreamnet.com.
- You'll need to have the free QuickTime player (version 6.5 or higher) loaded on your computer. If you already have QuickTime, skip to step #3.
There are links to download QuickTime throughout the MIstreamnet site. If you are not able to download and install QuickTime, please contact your network administrator as soon as possible. - Click on the "Live Video Stream" link in the menu on the left side of the page.
- Click in the QuickTime window with the text: "Click here to play stream." The window will not appear to be a link (your pointer/cursor will not change), but click in the window. A new QuickTime window will open, and the stream will begin in a few seconds.
- You may need to check that the connection speed or streaming speed is set properly in Quicktime preferences. If you are not familiar with QuickTime preferences, click on the "Tech Support" link on the left-hand side of the page. There are instructions on that page for QuickTime versions 6.x and 7.x for Windows or Mac OS X operating systems.
- Support Materials (PowerPoint presentations and other documents) will be available by clicking on the appropriate links below the QuickTime window on the "Live Video Stream" page.
Day of the Webcast
- Test the stream again at least one hour prior to the event.
- If you experience technical difficulty, review the "Tech Support" and follow the information on the page. You may want to seek help from your network administrator or technical assistant.
- If you are still experiencing difficulty, contact the MIstreamnet Help Desk at 1-888-570-6212. The MIstreamnet Help Desk is only active on the day of webcasts.
